Inca Trail Ecuador Famous Trek – In the western Andes mountain range is the most important road system built by the Incas in the territory of Tahuantinsuyo. Originally called Capac Ñan, literally Great Inca Road, the Inca road system linked together about 40,000 km of roadway and provided access to over three million km² of territory.
Most of this architectural prowess was destroyed by the Spanish after the conquest. The Inca Trail Ecuador Famous Trek is a three or four-days hike following the thirty-kilometres stretch of the route.
The Inca Trail, that once linked Cuzco (Inca capital) with Tomebamba (actual Cuenca) and Quito, starts from Achupallas and reachs the castle Ingapirca in the province of Cañar. Along the way, you will observe the imposing tambos (Incan structures), canals and water management systems, but also breathtaking paramo landscapes and lagoons located at the top of the range.

The Ingapirca Archaeological Site is made up of a temple, which is known as the Temple of the Sun, storage chambers, observatories and roads, each with it own purpose. The temple is a very fascinating part of the complex and is located in the center of the archeological site.

Riobamba to Cuchicorral
Transfer from Riobamba to Achupallas, canton Alausí, where we will have a good traditional lunch.
Hike to the Valley Culebrillas for about 5 hours, in this section you will see the first part of the Inca trail following the valley until Cuchicorral, place where we will spend the night.
Dinner and Camping.
Culebrillas to San Jose
We will hike to the Paredones tambo ruins, an important archaeological site, for about 8 hours. In the way we will appreciate beautiful landscapes, among them are "Tres Cruces” mountain and Lagoon and the Culebrillas Lagoon, flora, native wildlife. We will pass trough the highest point of the hike (4440 m.) after Tres Cruces.
Dinner and Camping.
Paredones to Ingapirca
Hike from Paredones to the Ingapirca Ruins, approximately 5 hours. Visit of the Ingapirca Archaeological site where we will learn about the Inca and Cañari Culture who dominated these territories (about 1 hour).
Lunch and return to the city of Riobamba.
